ROLYPOLY FAMILY DANCE PARTY @ GOT TO MOVE FESTIVAL (in partnership with Maya Dance Theatre)

One Day Only: 23rd Oct!

Time 10am (Morning Party) & 4pm (Afternoon Party)

(Different timings but Same Fun Party!)

Rolypoly Family invites you to a special dance party for young children and their grown-ups! We will celebrate the joy of movement and rhythm, and discover the thrill of dancing as partners and as a community. Dance as you are!

The dance party begins with a short facilitation to get young children and grown-ups ready for utmost movement expression. Then, we have an open dance jam to provide the space for grown-ups and children to dance in partnership, both leading and following. There is no right way or wrong way here, though we provide tips for safe dancing. Facilitators will be part of the open dance jam to inspire and be inspired.

Please note:

  • This is not a drop-off or parent-accompanied programme. Children and grown-ups participate together.
  • We don’t decide what “family” means for you. Grown-ups, come with young children who consider you family

Children and grown-ups should be dressed in comfortable attire for active movement. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself rolling, crawling, climbing, jumping, going upside down, ROFL (rolling on the floor laughing) or all of the above! No prior dance experience needed. There is no “right way” or “wrong way” to dance in the jam, though we provide tips for safe dancing.

ROLYPOLY FAMILY Dance is based on Faye’s dance explorations with her 2 year-old son and is inspired by intuitive dancer-parent-teachers out there, including Itay Yatuv/Contakids (Israel) and Heike Kuhlmann (Berlin). Each session is also influenced by the kids and adults in the room, who come in with their own creativity and movement styles.

Resident Dance Artists: Faye Lim & Felicia Lim

Faye Lim

Faye Lim founded Rolypoly Family to share a space where dance and community can be enjoyed by dancers and families with young children. Her practice in movement and contact improvisation, experience teaching dance to young children, and never-ending play with her 2 year-old son form the base for her work in Rolypoly Family.

She continues to collaborate with other artists on performance-making, directs the Strangeweather Movement Group and facilitates jams and workshops in Singapore and dance festivals in KL. She holds an MFA in Dance from the NYU Tisch School, where she received the Graduate Award for Artistic Initiative.

Felicia Lim

Felicia Lim is a dance practitioner based in Singapore. She studied dance in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and continued on to her final year in SUNY Purchase College, graduating with a BFA in dance. While in school and through various workshops and intensives focusing in somatic practices and contact improvisation, she experienced diverse ways of approaching dance and is interested in discovering more about the relationship of the body and movement.
