Rolypoly Family Dance Class x Teach-Us.How

ROLYPOLY FAMILY DANCE CLASS @ GOODMAN ARTS CENTRE

Season 1 (Feb to March) & Season 2 (May)

Time 0400 – 0500pm

Rolypoly Family Dance Class contains a pint of play, a cup of curiosity, a smidgen of song, and lots of hugs and kisses!

The class emphasises free play between children and grown-ups through dance and physical connection. Expect to roll around, climb all over each other, and do family massage. Children and grown-ups take turns to lead and follow, push and pull, lean and support. The aim of the class is for families to discover new fun and connection with each other through skin-to-skin contact and familiarity with each other’s bodies.

Each class in Season 1 is structured around a fun and different theme; “Finding and losing our balance… for fun!” and “Upside Down Day! Seeing each other from a different angle” to explore different movements styles and expressions

Recommended age is 2-5 years old. We encourage and support younger siblings to join in the fun by giving a huge discount for each siblings. So if you have a younger child, do bring them along for double the fun at less than half the price.

Children and grown-ups should be dressed in comfortable attire for active movement. No prior dance experience needed.

For each child, there can be 1-2 participating grown-ups.

* Please note that this is not a drop-off programme. Grown-ups have to participate.

ABOUT ROLYPOLY DANCE

ROLYPOLY FAMILY Dance is based on Faye’s dance explorations with her 2 year-old son and is inspired by intuitive dancer-parent-teachers out there, including Itay Yatuv/Contakids (Israel) and Heike Kuhlmann (Berlin). Each session is also influenced by the kids and adults in the room, who come in with their own creativity and movement styles.

Resident Dance Artists: Faye Lim & Felicia Lim

Faye Lim

Faye Lim founded Rolypoly Family to share a space where dance and community can be enjoyed by dancers and families with young children. Her practice in movement and contact improvisation, experience teaching dance to young children, and never-ending play with her 2 year-old son form the base for her work in Rolypoly Family.

She continues to collaborate with other artists on performance-making, directs the Strangeweather Movement Group and facilitates jams and workshops in Singapore and dance festivals in KL. She holds an MFA in Dance from the NYU Tisch School, where she received the Graduate Award for Artistic Initiative.

Felicia Lim

Felicia Lim is a dance practitioner based in Singapore. She studied dance in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and continued on to her final year in SUNY Purchase College, graduating with a BFA in dance. While in school and through various workshops and intensives focusing in somatic practices and contact improvisation, she experienced diverse ways of approaching dance and is interested in discovering more about the relationship of the body and movement.
